On Wednesday, May 21, 2025, weisenburger bau GmbH and GSW Speyer celebrated the official laying of the foundation stone on Hemshofstraße in Ludwigshafen.

A total of 18 climate-friendly rental apartments are being built – 17 of which are barrier-free – along with a new parish center including a hall and office spaces. Six of the apartments are specifically designed to be age-appropriate, promoting intergenerational living. The building meets the requirements of the “Climate-Friendly New Building” standard and will be certified with the QNG sustainability label. Balconies, loggias, and a rooftop terrace provide additional outdoor space right in the heart of the city.

The rental apartments are supported by funding from the state of Rhineland-Palatinate with assistance from the federal government. The official grant approval was presented by Finance Minister Doris Ahnen and Alexandra Wüst from the ISB.

Mayor Jutta Steinruck and local district head Osman Gürsoy also highlighted the importance of this project for affordable housing and future-oriented urban development in their speeches.

A special moment of the ceremony was the blessing of the building by Dean Dominik Geiger, accompanied by Cathedral Chapter Member Peter Schappert – a symbol of the close connection between church, community, and housing.

weisenburger thanks all involved for their dedicated and trusting cooperation – and looks forward to the next steps in this meaningful project.
